PUNCHING KITTY: 2009 - 2013

Punching Kitty was a writing project for the city of St. Louis to have a little fun and try to get everyone to stop taking themselves so seriously…and hopefully highlight some critical issues along the way. Not everyone liked it (it turns out people don’t love being made fun of) but we converted a lot of people and I take pride that the site was truly well read. From the local media, to area police departments, Punching Kitty truly became a source for news and entertainment for St. Louis.

We had a lot of fun, but all good things need an ending and ours was on March 13th, 2013. When we closed up shop the news made local radio, TV, and even the front page of STLToday (The St. Louis Post Dispatch’s website) where we were the top story over a new pope being named. Wild stuff.

While we will no longer actively write, the site will stay up as an archive for St. Louis.

Missouri Might Allow Advertisements on School Buses

The Missouri State Senate is mulling a bill that if passed, would allow various state school districts to sell advertisement space on school busses, because “Well we see it on NASCAR races!” is a great reason to do all kinds of stuff and has never lead to any safety concerns or issues what so ever. Rep. Mike Kelley, R-Lamar, said many districts need the money after several years of tight budgets. [Read More]

A Crazy Fight Went Down at Meramec Community College

Update: The video was removed from YouTube, but we have found a second copy on Ebaum’s World which is embedded below. Original post follows… There was quite the fight yesterday on the Meramec Community College campus and there was video, because just like all those fat Britney Spears snatch shots. as horrible as it sounds you know you gotta check it out at least once. The video’s audio is pretty NSFW, and the video is recorded in that iPhone tall and skinny aspect ratio which is super annoying, but violates no known HR policies. [Read More]

Texas Tech Chess Team Transfered to Webster…All of Them!

You might have not realized it, but St. Louis is one of the world’s chess epicenters. No, we have no idea why since we watch baseball, but we’d guess it has something to do with all the time we spend inside here for reasons like: “It’s too cold!”, “It’s too hot!” or “Someone’s shooting at me!” No matter the reason, St. Louis is a great place to play chess and because of that, the entire roster of the reigning collegiate chess championship team are all transferring from Texas Tech to Webster University. Every Local Reference in the Simpsons

We might be a forgotten metro area to some, but not the Simpsons! The townsfolk of Springfield love to make St. Louis references and some guy on the internet has pulled all those references together in to one YouTube video…why? Because the internet is awesome! One notable Simpsons St. Louis moment is when Cardinal slugger (and now hitting coach) Mark McGwire visited Sprinfield to cover up an MLB conspiracy by hitting homeruns and hiding documents under his large hat (pictured above). Check Out Rafael Frucal’s LA Living Room

Now that shortstop Rafael Furcal has settled in with the Cardinals and his 2 year deal, he’s moving on from his previous digs in LA by putting his house on the market for 3.8 Million. Shown above, “Casa de Furcal” is described as a “Grand Mediterranean Villa” with a “Dramatic gated two story entry with graceful curved grand staircase and travertine floors.” which sounds really nice, and possibly even nicer if we ever have someone explain to us what most of that meant. SNL Piles on With East St. Louis Jokes

You probably didn’t see this weekend’s Saturday Night Life because you lead a fabulous lifestyle, were sleeping already, or was up but planning the following week’s drive-by shooting. (Yes, there’s planning involved in a drive-by! Who’s gonna drive? What gun should we take? At what angle should we hold the gun? Who are we trying to kill?). If that’s the case, then you missed SNL join the long line of people making fun of East St. [Read More]
