PUNCHING KITTY: 2009 - 2013

Punching Kitty was a writing project for the city of St. Louis to have a little fun and try to get everyone to stop taking themselves so seriously…and hopefully highlight some critical issues along the way. Not everyone liked it (it turns out people don’t love being made fun of) but we converted a lot of people and I take pride that the site was truly well read. From the local media, to area police departments, Punching Kitty truly became a source for news and entertainment for St. Louis.

We had a lot of fun, but all good things need an ending and ours was on March 13th, 2013. When we closed up shop the news made local radio, TV, and even the front page of STLToday (The St. Louis Post Dispatch’s website) where we were the top story over a new pope being named. Wild stuff.

While we will no longer actively write, the site will stay up as an archive for St. Louis.

Stupid Canadian Wanted to Get Shot Down, Instead Lands in Missouri

Stolen PlaneLets say you are a sad Canadian that apparently wants to die.  Oh wait, lets also say you are a freaking moron…and oddly enough, have a pilot’s license.  What’s the suicide move?

Would you have decided to hop in a plane, and try to fly across the US border hoping to get shot down only to have that not happen, and then keep flying until you have to make an emergency landing in Missouri?

The Dirty Uncovers One of St. Louis’ Finest Parents

From The Dirty:

DIRTY_phpBPKqON

THE DIRTY ARMY: My little sister pulled this up for me today, she was at this Halloween party. The fat, orange slob in the middle is Mary L*nk, proud mother of 5 but it has been said she lets her daughter’s homeless felon friends live with her as well. The more shocking part of this picture is her seven year old son in the bottom right corner. My sister mentioned that she lets them have parties so often that if the police come to their house one more time, she will get her children taken away… which may be for the better.

Brain Dump on Things Too Short to Be a Post

  • The Moonrise Hotel is great for the Loop, but horrible for Delmar. The street just can’t handle it.  If one person heading east wants to turn in to the Moonrise it backs up traffic all the way through the Loop.
  • The Cardinals aren’t going to re-sign Matt Holliday.  Deal with it.
  • Batman couldn’t really get around very well in St. Louis in his usual rooftop style.  There are too many breaks in the buildings.
  • There are too many Thai restaurants in the Loop.  Please eliminate three.
  • Dear 101 ESPN, you aren’t “the all new” anything any more.  Please knock that crap off and spend the money for new bumpers.

When is Too Early For Christmas Music?

When is Too Early For Christmas Music?

Katy Perry ChristmasWe’ve been through this all before…

Last year it was MOVIN 101.1 that finally had the life-support plug pulled on it and switched to Christmas music in October, and now its 100.3 KATZ thats flipping the switch to Christmas music a little earlier than we all would prefer.  So two years in a row, the majority of St. Louisan’s are left scratching our heads as to why on earth you would want to play Chrismas music this early.

Dirt Cheap vs Fred’s Cheapo Depot

Fred has moved on, and if you want to know the details of his split from the Dirt Cheap conglomerate, check out the article that has so much detail you will forget why you cared about this and leave half way through on STLToday.

What we at Punching Kitty want to know is:

Which commercial do you prefer?

The classic Dirt Cheap:

or the new Fred’s Cheapo Depot:

I know the Cheapo Depot is just starting out, but there’s something about the delivery that makes me think he is excited enough about the change to be able to really make some super horribly fantastic commercials in the near future.

Blind Item: Lots of Unsteadiness In St. Louis Radio

After the abrupt cleaning job at K-Hits last week, it seems the St. Louis radio landscape.  Here’s a purposely vague  summary of what we are hearing:

  1. It’s been about a year that this much talked about station has launched, what contracts will failed to be renewed?

  2. Could there be a shake up in the mornings for a station down the hall from item #1?  We doubt it but contract negotiations aren’t starting off well.

The Rams Win the Slap Fight Between the Two NFL Sissies

Holy crap the Rams won a game!

Let me rephrase: Steve Jackson won a game.  The rest of them stood around and took penalties for a few hours.

For those that missed the game, here’s a recap: There were tons of dropped balls and penalties and, well…here’s a clip from the game:

Of course there will be those that will spend all day today talking about this being a “turing point” and how this was when people took control, but lets cut the crap.  They barely beat the other worst team in the league.  Lets not go crazy on the turning point crap.  Remember the last turing point when they beat the Cowboys last year?  …oh yeah, that was the last time the Rams one won [Editor’s Note: Crap. FAILure is contagious apparently.].
