PUNCHING KITTY: 2009 - 2013

Punching Kitty was a writing project for the city of St. Louis to have a little fun and try to get everyone to stop taking themselves so seriously…and hopefully highlight some critical issues along the way. Not everyone liked it (it turns out people don’t love being made fun of) but we converted a lot of people and I take pride that the site was truly well read. From the local media, to area police departments, Punching Kitty truly became a source for news and entertainment for St. Louis.

We had a lot of fun, but all good things need an ending and ours was on March 13th, 2013. When we closed up shop the news made local radio, TV, and even the front page of STLToday (The St. Louis Post Dispatch’s website) where we were the top story over a new pope being named. Wild stuff.

While we will no longer actively write, the site will stay up as an archive for St. Louis.

Casey Mulligan Might Make it to the Show This Summer!

According to ESPN’s MLB prospect, and faking himself into thinking he is way more important than he is expert, Keith Law says St. Louis Cardinals prospect Casey Mulligan might be good enough to get to St. Louis this summer:

Relievers don’t usually make my top 100 unless they’re top-shelf, but ex-catcher Casey Mulligan and his plus changeup could sneak into the big leagues this year.

You might recognize the name Casey Mulligan.  Since he’s not quite famous for his relief pitching just yet, you probably know him as the ballplayer that suddenly busted out a rendition of Thriller during a rain delay.

Kurt Warner Walks Away From the NFL

We’ve given Kurt Warner a hard time in the past and we still don’t fully understand the people that are so wrapped up in Warner-love that they seemingly forget about just how bad he was at the end of his Rams’ career.  However, Kurt Warner is seemingly a great guy that has had a great career (though not hall of fame worthy) and made the rarely seen choice to end it on top.  Sure he got rocked repeatedly and got whooped by the Saints, but Warner was a solid quarterback this year on a good team.

Jon Hamm Drops the Highschool Question on Saturday Night Live

Jesus.  It’s come to this.  St. Louisian Jon Hamm hosted Saturday Night Live last night and dropped the old “Where did you go to high school?”  line to a national audience. Missed it?  We have the video below:

Yes, we know its just a line in one of those “last few of the night that really aren’t that good but if we don’t let the new guy get a sketch he’s written on the air soon he’s going to kill himself” sketches, but still this is getting out of hand.

If You Never Got Your Package of Coke, Its at the Franklin County Assessor’s Office

You know that package with the baggie of cocaine you were expecting?  Well it was accidentally delivered to the Franklin County Assessor’s Office.

The Union Police Department was contacted Thursday afternoon after a mysterious powdery substance turned up at the Franklin County Assessor’s Office from a Pacific resident. The powdery substance turned out to be a controlled substance.

This story gets better, because apparently the Assessor isn’t exactly hip to the jive.  When he saw the white powder, he didn’t do the tv cop thing where they just stick their finger in there and then taste it. [Editor’s Note: That’s what she said!] No, he called in HAZMAT!

Found Video: A St. Louis Time Lapse

What the hell is it about time lapse videos that are so damn entertaining?  I don’t know either, but I just found a St. Louis themed one on Vimeo:

Walking around, or a sped up day (ahem) are really is the best uses of time lapse.  Porn I think would be really weird all sped up. It would be over so quick, you really couldn’t enjoy yourself.  Oh wait.  I think I just found some sympathy for women.  Give me a second it will pass…
