PUNCHING KITTY: 2009 - 2013

Punching Kitty was a writing project for the city of St. Louis to have a little fun and try to get everyone to stop taking themselves so seriously…and hopefully highlight some critical issues along the way. Not everyone liked it (it turns out people don’t love being made fun of) but we converted a lot of people and I take pride that the site was truly well read. From the local media, to area police departments, Punching Kitty truly became a source for news and entertainment for St. Louis.

We had a lot of fun, but all good things need an ending and ours was on March 13th, 2013. When we closed up shop the news made local radio, TV, and even the front page of STLToday (The St. Louis Post Dispatch’s website) where we were the top story over a new pope being named. Wild stuff.

While we will no longer actively write, the site will stay up as an archive for St. Louis.

Dude That Voted Twice in 2008 Can Never Vote Again

The St. Louis man convicted of voting twice in the 2008 election was sentenced Wednesday to two years of probation, has to pay $350 in various fines, and oddly, sent to mandatory drug counseling. Rumor is that, Tarrell Campbell, 34, opted for the drug counseling himself after realizing the folly of making a big effort to vote for President Obama twice, and get none of the “change” he broke the law for. Webster University Has a Parking Issue

This photo of someone’s witty reply to Mr. Gottlieb’s parking fine threat has been making the rounds today. Though according to the Webster University website there are 13 lots with various rules of who can park there and when, it’s not enough for some Webster students. One of them has a printer a couple thumb tacks and some free time. Also of note on the Webster University Parking Policy page is this little nugget: [Read More]

Here’s the Actual Photo of Sam Bradford in a Mizzou Jersey

On Monday we mocked up what we thought it would look like when Sam Bradford pays off his bet with a Rams teammate about who would win Saturday’s game of Mizzou vs Oklahoma (above), but yesterday the real thing went down and we have photos of Oklahoma’s former QB rocking a personalized Mizzou jersey, courtesy of Rams wide receiver Danario Alexander.

It all started with an early morning tweet by Alexander saying simply “Good morning people!! I have a surprise for you today.”

A few hours later two more tweets followed with attached photos of Bradford rocking his personalized Mizzou jersey with his old college days number 14 on the front:

When reporters asked if Bradford ever thought about going to Mizzou out of high school, the media-savvy rookie quarterback replied:

Absolutely not, I wanted to win Big 12 championships.

…and what will he do with his personalized Mizzou jersey?

It’s going right back to Mr. Alexander. He can take it wherever he got it.

Full photos after the jump!

Three Inmates, One With Sidespike, Escaped From Prison

Three inmates have escaped from the Daviess/DeKalp County jail in Pattonsburg, Missouri by crawling under a fence. They escaped in to the small town with no shoes but wearing their standard-issue prison orange jumpsuit. Obviously, this has the prison and the town on full alert. Three inmates, including a convicted murderer, escaped from a northwest Missouri jail by crawling under a fence, leading authorities to lock down the surrounding community’s school and to go door-to-door warning residents. KFNS Actually Found a Way to Reach Fewer People Tuesday Morning

If you noticed a distinct lack of “sports” talk that is 8 parts gay jokes and 2 parts Mizzou talk, its probably because your only choice for sports talk was 101ESPN‘s Mike & Mike in the Morning after Monday night’s storm kicked over the flattened out coat hanger 590 AM KFNS uses to broadcast. The morning static was confirmed by the station’s morning show host, Tim McKernan… McKernan, who’s InsideSTL.com handles most of the day’s programming on KFNS, did their show through the internets until the station came back on line a few hours later. Cinema St. Louis Gives Award to Some Dude Named Kathleen

Cinema St. Louis took time last weekend to honor Kathleen Turner, the Springfield, Missouri native and currently in town preforming in “High” at the Repertory Theatre of St. Louis, with a lifetime achievement award. It appears, upon exhaustive research, that the award was for lifetime achievement in “acting”, not in “hitting the wall harder than Princess Diana” as we originally thought. Seriously, look at her! Your first instinct is to say “Pretty decent cover for a tranny. [Read More]

Suburban Journals Columnist Says St. Louis County Has Bad Teeth?!

Oh no you didn’t Steve Pokin of the Suburban Journals’ “Pokin Around” column! (Ah! We see what you did there with your name being “Pokin” and all. Clever) Dude straight said St. Charles County has better teeth than those on the right side of the Missouri River. Oh wait. First he calls us bullies! I don’t think I’m being oversensitive when I say a lot of people in St. Louis like to make fun of us. [Read More]

Frontenac: Oh You Like Charity? Take That Crap Somewhere Else!

Plaza Frontenac doesn’t want any do-good charity bull crap next to Saks Fifth Avenue or Neiman Marcus. Apparently that stuff doesn’t make any money and that’s just not going to cut it, so the city has worked with the fancy shopping center to preemptively block any nonprofits from getting in the mix. Jesse Bogan has the details at STLToday – The story starts with a St. Louis Bread Co. cafe — specifically, the one in Clayton that opened earlier this year as a nonprofit, promising to kick back its profits to charitable causes.
