PUNCHING KITTY: 2009 - 2013

Punching Kitty was a writing project for the city of St. Louis to have a little fun and try to get everyone to stop taking themselves so seriously…and hopefully highlight some critical issues along the way. Not everyone liked it (it turns out people don’t love being made fun of) but we converted a lot of people and I take pride that the site was truly well read. From the local media, to area police departments, Punching Kitty truly became a source for news and entertainment for St. Louis.

We had a lot of fun, but all good things need an ending and ours was on March 13th, 2013. When we closed up shop the news made local radio, TV, and even the front page of STLToday (The St. Louis Post Dispatch’s website) where we were the top story over a new pope being named. Wild stuff.

While we will no longer actively write, the site will stay up as an archive for St. Louis.

Zt. Louis II: The Adventure of Links

STLog tried to find out what the deal is with the Cardinals and tickets to July’s All-Star Game.

Strohm says that those with Cardinals season tickets will have an opportunity to get seats, but the exact locations of those seats haven’t been determined. The club will contact season ticket holders in April with more details.

Want to Remember 1986 live?  Hal Sparks is coming to the lou.

So is James Taylor and is tickets are pretty expensive for a guy I remember being on Sesame Street.

Rock of Love Bus in St. Louis: God I Hate These Bitches

picture-14

For those with lives that missed VH1’s Rock of Love Bus this week, the skank mobile parked in St. Louis where Brett took the girls to the Hustler Club (shocking right?) and Uncle Joe’s Flamingo Bowl on Washington.  Great for Joe!  Bad for everyone that watched it, especially for those that live in Missouri because we got to watch the dumbest skanks VH1 could find have an exchange about where exactly St. Louis is:

Fox 2 General Manager Can’t Go Number 2 With the Rest of You People

STLMedia.net is saying that Fox 2’s general manager has not only being pushing the construction union’s limits by trying to get the workers at the KPLR studios to work through their breaks, but also has spent $60,000 on a private bathroom for his office all while more layoff rumors swirl around the new “siamese stations.”

Apparently the troops at 2 and 11 know about the expensive crapper and are less than pleased.

More Media Layoffs: KMOV Cuts 10 Jobs

KMOV has cut 10 jobs, the majority of which are salespeople we hear.  The only “name” we’ve heard being cut is Tim Tialdo from our favorite show “Great Day St. Louis”

Anyone else have any word on this or know the others that were let go?

Lets Trade Some Links!

I’ve been meaning to write this up forever…

On the right side of the site you will see a little Blogroll area (Look a little lower, just a little more..there!).  We threw in some St. Louis sites we know of and/or read currently but we want to throw out the invitation to anyone else that would like to trade some links to email editor[at]punchingkitty[dot]com and lets talk!

We would love to have more great sites down there and of course we love it when people spread the PunchingKitty word!

Prop 8 Maps Reveals Surprisingly Low Bigot Numbers in St. Louis Area

The controversial web mash-up of the public list of donors to California’s Proposition 8 law and a map of California and the country, eightmaps.com, reveals the shocking number of zero for the St. Louis area.

Yup, zero.  According to the site, no one from the St. Louis area gave any money to Prop 8.  Sure it was a law in California, but you would be surprised at the far reaches of their donor list and yet not a soul from St. Louis.

semi_precious_weapons_1_500

Its Monday, you know you don’t have anything to do right?  Then head on out to The Loop tonight at 8p to see one of the most exciting bands on the planet: Semi Precious Weapons.  [Note: No slouch themselves, One Lone Car will be there as well.]

Yeah, I know, they are playing small venues here, but its just because the STL is a little behind the “Cool Times” (and you know this).

Brian McKenna Jumping to 1380?

…and the St. Louis sports talk orgy continues…

We have just received word that Brian McKenna, formally of KFNS 590 is jumping from one sinking ship to another as he will be starting as cohost of the Bernie Miklasz Show (2p-6p) as soon as tomorrow (Feb 9th).

We know that Bernie has had his share of cohosts since Randy Karraker was let go due to budget constraints (and later landed with the new 101 ESPN).  Nearly all the cohosts Bernie has been with have been horrible (Jay Randolph jr and Joe Zydlo being some of the most offensive) so maybe this is a move by 1380 to solidify up that show…or with all the movement between these two stations lately the was “the talking head to be named later” in the “Fox Hole” trade.
