McGwire to Everyone: “Oh THOSE Steroids! Yeah, I Took Those. Sorry.”

In a story about as shocking as the day Rosie ODonnell came out of the closet, today St. Louis Cardinals hitting coach and former home run champ Mark McGwire confessed he took steroids during his major league career, including 1998.  Which of course is the year that JD Drew first played major league baseball…oh and he and some crazy black guy hit a bunch of home runs.

Matt Holliday’s Wife: Not Bad.

He’s going to be around for 7 years, so we might as well dig in here and get to the real question: How’s Matt Holiday’s wife looking?

Verdict: Eh.  Not bad.

Evidence:

<p>
  After meeting on a blind date in 1998 and getting engaged a year later, Matt and Leslee now have two boys age 5 and 2.
</p>

<p>
  She looks pretty cute.  She&#8217;s no Mrs. Heidi (Mark) DeRosa (<a href="http://punchingkitty.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/heidi-derosa2.jpg" target="_blank">ahem</a>), but not too shabby either.
</p>

<p>
  Approved!  Kick off  your shoes Mrs. H and make yourself at home!
</p>

<p>
  Of course Rolen was supposed to be around for a long time too.  How&#8217;d that end up again?

Matt Holiday Signs: $17 Million a Year Seems Like a Lot For a Guy That Can’t Catch

The Cardinals have finally sealed the deal!  It took a lot of dinners and getting their had slapped away from some boobs, but after a weekend of some heavy petting, the finally went all the way and got the deal done with the apple of their offseason’s eye, Matt Holiday.

Holliday announced the deal himself on ESPN Radio yesterday. (No, not the St. Louis version 101 ESPN, the national version.  Bitch slap!)

Birds of a Feather, Pose for Douchey Photos?

If I didn’t recognize the two on the left as St. Louis Cardinals Brendan Ryan and Colby Rasmus, I would say this picture appears to be the start of an amazing douche collection.

It has it all, the guy that throws the peace sign everywhere, the “I’ve been rocking this so long it can’t possibly be ironic any longer” mustache and a straight up classic “Me Play Sports Good” face on young Colby in the middle.

Ballpark Village to Stay Equivalent of High School Parking Lot

A sweet softball field and a parking lot.  That’s the awesome action going on next to Busch Stadium right now, and its here to stay for a little while.

Go St. Louis!

Don’t expect to see the Ballpark Village site humming with construction next summer. The site, which is now home to a softball field and parking lot, will almost certainly look the same during the 2010 baseball season, said Bill DeWitt III, president of the St. Louis Cardinals.

When You Account for the Season, the Cardinals Aren’t All That Cheap

The whole point of this post over at subtraction.com by Khoi Vinh was to invalidate the “Yankees bought a championship!” argument, and although an interesting read, not really something that this blog gives a crap about.  However, in the data he pulled something interesting did pop up that related to St. Louis and our National League Central champ Cardinals.

Vinh pulled the revenue each team made in 2008 and the payroll for the team in the 2009 season and compared the “investment rate” that the team operated on for the 2009 season along with their final record.

Brain Dump on Things Too Short to Be a Post

  • The Moonrise Hotel is great for the Loop, but horrible for Delmar. The street just can’t handle it.  If one person heading east wants to turn in to the Moonrise it backs up traffic all the way through the Loop.
  • The Cardinals aren’t going to re-sign Matt Holliday.  Deal with it.
  • Batman couldn’t really get around very well in St. Louis in his usual rooftop style.  There are too many breaks in the buildings.
  • There are too many Thai restaurants in the Loop.  Please eliminate three.
  • Dear 101 ESPN, you aren’t “the all new” anything any more.  Please knock that crap off and spend the money for new bumpers.
