PUNCHING KITTY: 2009 - 2013

Punching Kitty was a writing project for the city of St. Louis to have a little fun and try to get everyone to stop taking themselves so seriously…and hopefully highlight some critical issues along the way. Not everyone liked it (it turns out people don’t love being made fun of) but we converted a lot of people and I take pride that the site was truly well read. From the local media, to area police departments, Punching Kitty truly became a source for news and entertainment for St. Louis.

We had a lot of fun, but all good things need an ending and ours was on March 13th, 2013. When we closed up shop the news made local radio, TV, and even the front page of STLToday (The St. Louis Post Dispatch’s website) where we were the top story over a new pope being named. Wild stuff.

While we will no longer actively write, the site will stay up as an archive for St. Louis.

Amazon.com Says St. Louis is the 18th Most Romantic City

Basing their rankings off of sales data of romantic novels, relationship books, romantic comedy movies, Barry White albums and various “sexual wellness” products per capita since the first of the year, Amazon.com has placed St. Louis at number 18 on it’s Most Romantic City list. To us that sounds more like St. Louis has relationship issues than one that’s naturally romantic. Why buy all that crap if you’re just naturally gifted with the ladies? [Read More]

Rapper Pissed ESPN Used His Song No One’s Heard of on Their National Broadcast

First, before we get to the meat of this little ordeal, we want you to know that KSDK brought us this story from Frank Wiley reporting live from downtown St. Louis last night. Why? No clue. None of this had anything to do with downtown St. Louis. Maybe Frank had to smoke or fart or something so he took his work outside. It added nothing to the story of a local rapper suing ESPN, but maybe if you hit your head really really hard or take a day and drink nothing by antifreeze it might make more sense. [Read More]

Ladies: How Many of You Wore Skirts at West County Mall? You Might be Famous.

The guy on the right is Daniel Barbatti, and he’s really into movies. For one, he’s worked really hard on making himself look like the serial killer in a bad action movie…and also because he rigged up a hidden camera and good upskirt videos of ladies at West County Mall. Congratulations! Some of you West County ladies are now famous! Not “Hollywood” famous, more like “I have that same pair of underwear…oh crap! [Read More]

Violent Crime Gets Slightly More Cordial

Early Monday morning, a man shot a 17 year-old in the leg. Some people like coffee, but who are we to judge? According to the victim, he and the suspect got into an argument around 1 a.m. on the 4100 block of Enright. The suspect, 28, then took out a gun and fired at the victim, striking him in the leg. Well that wasn’t very cool. The suspect dropped the victim off at an area hospital where he was listed in serious condition. [Read More]

Missouri State Government: The Internet is Scary After Your Facebook Gets Hacked!

OMG: Internet hackers are targeting Missouri state representatives and their staff, and no one knows exactly how or why. JK, LOL. Really STLToday? “internet hackers”? You have the first line of your story about Missouri State officials getting their Facebook passwords cracked is about “internet hackers” mysteriously “targeting” the state representatives? You even got the little laptop floating in the blue internet image there. Really nicely done. Did you ask our grandma for help on this story? [Read More]

Maria Spagnuolo Will Haunt Your Dreams

Did you watch the Super Bowl on Fox? Then you’ve already seen what we’re going to talk about: Those “One on One with Maria Spanguolo” spots. Ahhhh! Damn Fox2, could have done any creepier lighting on the Rams head coache’s wife? All shadowy and has that effect where no matter what place you stand, she looks like she will put your child in a giant black pot with a boiling water and a few cut up carrots. [Read More]

Steven Jackson’s Wild Super Bowl Limo Ride

Like many NFL stars, St. Louis Rams running back Steven Jackson grabbed a flight down to Dallas to join in the Super Bowl fun. Early on Super Bowl Sunday, Jackson was scheduled to attend the ESPN tailgate party, so he took a limo from the hotel and the limo, in turn, took SJ39 on a little pre-party adventure. Luckily, he’s a prolific tweeter with a strong 3G connection, so we all got to ride shotgun on the crazy limo ride, which did, eventually, end with Jackson and company getting to the appearance safely. Toxicology Report: Adrienne Martin Died of Oxycodone and Cocaine Overdose?

When we first talked about the mysterious death of celebrity, and ex-beer baron August Busch IV‘s girlfriend Adrienne Martin, the police initially focused the investigation towards a possible overdose after being found dead in a room in Busch’s mansion. Naturally, family and friends of Martin denied such claims with statements like… “She was against drugs,” — Timothy Carlson, former boss “Adrienne was always very anti-drug.” — Dr. Kevin Martin, ex-husband [Read More]

Cardinals Sign Jim Edmonds…Wait What?!

MLB Trade Rumors is reporting that the Cardinals…our Cardinals, the St. Louis Cardinals, have signed Jim Edmonds. The same one as before. Not one from a time machine, the one from this year, the one that was about to retire like a week ago. It appeared likely that Edmonds would retire last weekend, but the 40-year-old is returning for an 18th season in the major leagues. Eight of those seasons came in St. [Read More]

KPLR News: People Slip More When There’s Ice Than When There Isn’t Ice

It seems like forever ago with local news channel Fox2 (KTVI) swallowed channel 11 (KTVI)’s station and news department. We remember wondering: “If both stations are still going to do news, how will they break it up so they aren’t competing against themselves?” Apparently the deal was Fox2 will deal with actual news and 11 will take these two stick, try not to poke their eye out and see what they can come up with.
