PUNCHING KITTY: 2009 - 2013

Punching Kitty was a writing project for the city of St. Louis to have a little fun and try to get everyone to stop taking themselves so seriously…and hopefully highlight some critical issues along the way. Not everyone liked it (it turns out people don’t love being made fun of) but we converted a lot of people and I take pride that the site was truly well read. From the local media, to area police departments, Punching Kitty truly became a source for news and entertainment for St. Louis.

We had a lot of fun, but all good things need an ending and ours was on March 13th, 2013. When we closed up shop the news made local radio, TV, and even the front page of STLToday (The St. Louis Post Dispatch’s website) where we were the top story over a new pope being named. Wild stuff.

While we will no longer actively write, the site will stay up as an archive for St. Louis.

Baby Elephant Gets Herpes At St. Louis Zoo

Baby Elephant Gets Herpes At St. Louis Zoo

elephant_sex

According to KWMU, Jade, the 23-month old elephant at the St. Louis, has contracted the herp which is bad news for elephants since herpes is fatal to them…though somehow makes Paris Hilton stronger every day.

Of course the question now is how does a baby elephant get herpes?  Frankly the suspect list is endless.  I mean we’re in St. Louis…there isn’t a guy in town that hasn’t gotten drunk and shacked up with a “baby elephant.”

Great.

Forbes Magazine says via BizJournals.com:

St. Louis has been ranked the 10th-most miserable city in the nation by Forbes magazine.

The “Forbes Misery Measure” looks at the 150 largest metropolitan statistical areas in the U.S., or those areas with a population of at least 378,000. The list was based on nine factors: commute times, corruption, pro sports teams, Superfund sites, taxes (both income and sales), unemployment, violent crime and weather.

St. Louis Road FAIL

trucksinks625feb11

Who the hell would have thought a 140 year old sewer would collapse when someone drove a semi truck carrying 43,000 pounds worth of scrap metal over it?!

I guess they don’t make them like they did 175 years ago…

Via STLToday.com and I’m sure every single nightly news cast tonight.

Is a 1380 Sale Imminent?

There is word that there has been a complete hiring freeze at Simmons owned stations (thats 1380AM and 1490AM here in St. Louis) because of a possible up coming sale of all properties in Texas and Missouri.

Its no secret 1380 is in serious trouble after the recent firings that left only one person on the business side for the entire station, but we aren’t sure about the heresy of a full station sale.  We tend to think there would be more word out if something like that was really this close to happening, and of course there is the question of “Who the hell would buy 1380?” still hanging out there.

Mayor Slay Praises Reed For Red Light Camera Changes

Starting shortly after the bill reaches Mayor Slay’s desk, traffic lights that have red-light cameras will be required to have a sign at the intersection stating the cameras are in use there.  Previously the signs were just posted at the border of the county or city where the cameras were used.  Says the Mayor: [permalink]

Aldermanic president Lewis Reed has – very sensibly – closed a loophole in the City’s ordinance authorizing automated traffic camera systems. Red-light cameras work best when motorists know about the cameras.

Hey Look KSDK Has a Mogulus Account!

http://www.mogulus.com/ksdk

That is apparently channel 5, ksdk’s Mogulus account.  What is Mogulus?  Its a service for streaming live video to the web.

Anyone have any idea what they are doing with this?  There’s lots of great things they could do with a Mogulus account [Ed Note: I’m being serious.] but their track record says they aren’t using it to the fullest, or at all.

Watch Out Underage Drinkers of Maryland Heights!

The Post Dispatch reports that Maryland Heights has over 400 underage drinking violations every year.  Also, apparently, they care about it. So much in fact that they are applying for a state grant so they can things like hire “underage undercover operatives” also known as douchey kids or young Dwight Schrutes.

Seriously.

Wow, a narc at such a young age. I bet these kids are just going to be swimming in some mad levels of pussy!

Is Your Metro Bus Line Getting Killed Off?

Is Your Metro Bus Line Getting Killed Off?

metrobus_passing_under_st_louis_science_center_walkway_st_louis_mo_rdax_420x214

Starting yesterday, Feb. 9th, signs will start popping up at the bus stops about the lines that are being killed off because the people in charge of Metrolink / Metrobus are morons.

Of course if you ask Metro president Bob Baer what can be done to fix it, he will tell you to help get a new transit funding measure on the ballot in St. Louis County in the spring of 2010.
