PUNCHING KITTY: 2009 - 2013

Punching Kitty was a writing project for the city of St. Louis to have a little fun and try to get everyone to stop taking themselves so seriously…and hopefully highlight some critical issues along the way. Not everyone liked it (it turns out people don’t love being made fun of) but we converted a lot of people and I take pride that the site was truly well read. From the local media, to area police departments, Punching Kitty truly became a source for news and entertainment for St. Louis.

We had a lot of fun, but all good things need an ending and ours was on March 13th, 2013. When we closed up shop the news made local radio, TV, and even the front page of STLToday (The St. Louis Post Dispatch’s website) where we were the top story over a new pope being named. Wild stuff.

While we will no longer actively write, the site will stay up as an archive for St. Louis.

Bonneville’s Staff to Lose Their Free Starbucks

Times are tough everywhere, especially in the radio biz.  So tough that one of the staff’s favorite work perks over at Bonneville (the company that runs WIL 92.3, 106.5 The Arch, 101 ESPN and ToastedRav.com), free Starbucks coffee in the break room, is going away.  We hear the machine itself might stay, but the staff will be expected to pony up for their morning joe starting as soon as next week maybe.

Trouble at the Big 550: Vic and Brian Kelly Fired.

Update x3 below!

Breaking news reported first by PunchingKitty.com!

So much for the reunion of Vic and Trish on The Big 550 AM, as of today Vic has been let go as well as Frank  Brian Kelly in the news room.

Although this seems sudden, there has been a steady dose of fear running through the 550 office all week, that finally culminated today.  There was no mention of a specific reason for the chopping other than “Radio doesn’t make any money these days.”

March 3rd Mayoral Primary Race Warming to Room Temperature

Driving around the other day I saw a “Reelect Slay” sign, which of course means its that time again!  The Demacratic Mayoral Primary is on March 3rd and Slay squares off against former Alderman and former second-fiddle to Slay in the last election, Irene J. Smith….oh and some one else, but seriously…who cares?  The fact I even know Smith is running is because of an article in the Post about how bad ass Mayor Slay is with his campaign and because “she” started following my personal Twitter account!

KMOV Axes John Mills

Our friends at the Riverfront Times’ blog STLog broke the news that channel 4, KMOV, have dropped the hammer on yet another employee.  This time it was veteran of 13 years John Mills.

John left a note to his…fans? …I guess…on his website:

“I am deeply grateful to the people of St. Louis for all their support over the past 13 years.

“Most especially, I want to recognize the victims of crime, discrimination and natural disaster. Thank you for trusting me to share your personal, painful stories with the public during some of the most difficult times of your lives.

Confirmed: Charter to File For Bankruptcy

cable_guy010307

Charter, everyone’s favorite St. Louis cable monopoly, has filed for bankruptcy.  From STLToday.com:

Cable operator Charter Communications Inc. says it will file Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization documents by April 1.

As part of an agreement with debt holders, they will be paid in full and Paul Allen will maintain the largest voting interest in the company.

In a stark contrast to Monopoly rules, Charter will continue its “service” after filing for and throughout the bankruptcy process.

Craigslist: I Sucked Your…

got_milk

This one really doesn’t need my commentary.  It can stand on its own…and not just because the guy the little slut is looking for is apparently rocking a kick-stand:

I sucked your BIG DICK at the Club 2 years ago – m4m – 23 (Club Stl)

You were tall, dark hair, in shape, goodlooking, muscles, and a BIG DICK. You tried to fuck me but I ended up sucking you instead. Just seeing if you were still in the area. I was/a young, baby face. 5’10, 165, and couldnt believe how big you were.
