Oh Post Dispatch Letters to the Editor, how I love you.  Every time a little bit of civic pride and love for my fair city starts to creep in to my heart, there  you are, displaying the crack pottiest letters from only the most sad individuals that think writing to their local newspaper still means something.

Take John Bell.

With the All-Star game in our fair city this year, there will be more out-of-towners roaming the cracked sidewalks of St. Louis than normal and every other baseball city will churn out a “Your Guide to St. Louis” post in the next week.  The first one we found was from The Chicago Tribune: “St. Louis: Your guide to the All-Star city“

This is a great baseball town. Cardinal fans know to applaud for a sacrifice bunt, especially when laid down by their pitcher. They know not to applaud when the other team ties the score on a sacrifice fly, even though it means an out for the opponent. They dress in red as if it were the only color on the racks.

We here at Punching Kitty don’t agree much with the first “establishment” on the list, the Eat Rite diner. but we understand its significance.

What do we like?  Although it didn’t make the list, we will always love City Diner on South Grand.

If we would have known that by mid Saturday we would be busy hiding from the heat, re-launching this blog, we would have made a point to grab our camera and head over to Pridefest.  But we didn’t.  We suck.

Luckily we live in an age where you don’t have to do anything to pretend  you are there, all you need is a few moments to do a Twitter or Flickr search!

Last night the Cardinals acquired the guy every one knew they wanted, Mark DeRosa, from the Cleveland Indians in exchange for “close of the future” Chris Perez and the always infamous “Player to be Named Later” (aka PTBNL).

@miklasz: I’ve been a DeRosa advocate so I love the move. His bat, versatility, ability to hit LH and clubhouse class make this a good deal.

Ahem.  Attention!  We called this meeting to tell you all something:

After much deliberating, I have decided to bring this blog back to life.

So what, if any changes will there be?  None really.  Its still going to be about St. Louis and the weird crap that happens around here.  There will still be youtube finds, and craigslist awesomeness.  Local media coverage may go down just a slight bit if only because I’m no longer entrenched in that world…thats not to say I’m not going to mention it at all, if someone does something awesome or stupid, I’m still all over it.

Oh how I’ve missed going through the stalker open market that is Criagslist’s Missed Connections section!

Yup, right there on the front page of STLToday’s Cardinals Sports page you find Derrick Goold of the PD and… twittering away while he follows around Cardinal players in the early beautiful Florida mornings.

For the record, we think this kind of stuff is great and we definitely like it as opposed to just having the one Twitter account that blasts out every story.  Those types of Twitter accounts are great for blogs (like this one!) but for big sites and TV stations, its just a little too much…like drinking from a fire-hose.  Having Goold actually on the other end sending out quick notes is a nice change of pace and something we can follow without having it take over our Twitter stream.
