PUNCHING KITTY: 2009 - 2013

Punching Kitty was a writing project for the city of St. Louis to have a little fun and try to get everyone to stop taking themselves so seriously…and hopefully highlight some critical issues along the way. Not everyone liked it (it turns out people don’t love being made fun of) but we converted a lot of people and I take pride that the site was truly well read. From the local media, to area police departments, Punching Kitty truly became a source for news and entertainment for St. Louis.

We had a lot of fun, but all good things need an ending and ours was on March 13th, 2013. When we closed up shop the news made local radio, TV, and even the front page of STLToday (The St. Louis Post Dispatch’s website) where we were the top story over a new pope being named. Wild stuff.

While we will no longer actively write, the site will stay up as an archive for St. Louis.

The Riverfront Times put together a Guide to All Star Weekend, including their St. Louis “map”  Don’t miss the section of where sports celebs live to get your stalk on.

Patrick Says tells the tale of how his paid blogging past cost him a laptop.  Is that irony?  You decide.

The discussion of the “Largest Tweetup Ever” continues on Simple Justice.

Mary Louise Parker gets a little naked for…does it matter?  I’ve always had a thing for her. (NSFW)

Tony LaRussa Bows to the Mighty Will of Twitter

Tony LaRussa mug shot#10 in your press guide, Tony LaRussa has decided to drop his lawsuit against Twitter over the fact someone made a fake Tony LaRussa Twitter account.  No settlement, just Tony putting the bat on his shoulders and walking back in to the dugout.

From Law.com:

Tony La Russa, the famed baseball manager known for his charity work with injured pets, apparently knows when he has a dog on his hands.

Update on the KFNS Producer Arrested on Rape Charges

Update on the KFNS Producer Arrested on Rape Charges

picture-11Back when Punching Kitty first launched in January, one of our top stories, and one that is still right up there on the top traffic-getting list, was about Ryan Huff, at the time a producer for local sport-talk KFNS being held on rape charges.

Because this story has gotten so much traffic, and since no other news outlet seems to be keeping track, we thought it was a good time for an update to the story.

Classic Steven Jackson: His 2002 College Crib

Classic Steven Jackson: His 2002 College Crib

Steve Jackson couldn’t help but laugh at himself over seeing this old clip of him in his college years surface on Twitter:

Picture 5

In the video Steven, with then roommate Lawrence Turner, opines: “A lot of guys brag about their George Forman Grill, well I have the next best thing, a sandwich maker.”

You still using that sandwich maker Steven?  Maybe on the bye week, I can come by and have some sandwiches?  I’ll bring the bread.

We Don’t Get Fox’s All-Star Game Commercial

We Don’t Get Fox’s All-Star Game Commercial

Have you seen the All-Star game commercials running on Fox yet?  Here it is:

What did you think?  I thought it was a bit odd.  The Arch as a magnet?  What?!  I just don’t get it.  Can anyone explain why they went this way with a whole world of other, less odd, choices were in front of them?

The one part that was pretty awesome was when Derek Jeter got “yanked” [Editor’s Note: Mental rimshot!] off the field, but Robinson Cano was left standing there like a douche.  Way to be a good sport Cano!

Legends and Celebrity Softball Game Rosters Announced

On Sunday July 12th, the traditional softball game of All-Star week will take place in Busch Stadium and like every year the rosters will be filled out by retired baseball greats, various celebrities and Jimmy Kimmel.

The rosters were recently announced they are stocked with St. Louis affiliated personalities.  Some names of note are:jenna_fischer-02

  • Nelly (of course)
  • Chingy (I think he’s Nelly’s little brother.)
  • Carl Edwards (he’s a limo driver or something)
  • Billy Bob Thorton (Long time Cardinals fan and general douche bag.)
  • Bobby Knight (Long time Tony LaRussa buddy.)
  • Ozzie Smith (Duh)
  • Bruce Sutter (Also duh)
  • Dave Winfield (He’s in it every year.  Seriously.)
  • Tommy John (Why not?)
  • Goose Gossage (He’s in these a lot too.)
  • Whitey Herzog (Duh)
  • Vince Coleman (Hopefully there won’t be any tarps on the field.)
  • Lee Smith (Duh)
  • and my personal favorite: Jenna Fisher, who as we all know, is a hot St. Louisan!

The plans are now that Punching Kitty will be crawling the crowd around the stadium on Sunday (we didn’t get tickets to the game sadly) taking some photos.  If you see us, say hi!

St. Louisan Sells Michael Jackson Stuff on EBay and the Same Story to Two Stations

A St. Louis couple decided to sell off their Jacko memorabilia on EBay, and actually netted some pretty good dough for the stuff.  Not only that, but they got on TV!  Thats right, they made the local news and took the time to record the news broadcasts with their camera and upload it to YouTube.

…they also, inadvertently, managed to illustrate how lame and formulaic local TV news has gotten.

Rex7 Responds to Stories About His Failed Tweetup Record

This morning two stories came out taking aim at the “St. Louis World Record Tweetup” event try that took place on Friday, July 3rd.  One, by yours truly “The ‘Largest’ Tweetup Falls a Bit Short of Record“, and the other by Bill Streeter of the Riverfront Times: “What If You Threw the LARGEST TWEET UP IN ST. LOUIS and No One Showed Up?

We tracked down Rex7 on Twitter, who gracefully linked to both stories in his Twitter feed, and asked him for a comment on the event and Streeter’s “fake followers” claim.
