PUNCHING KITTY: 2009 - 2013

Punching Kitty was a writing project for the city of St. Louis to have a little fun and try to get everyone to stop taking themselves so seriously…and hopefully highlight some critical issues along the way. Not everyone liked it (it turns out people don’t love being made fun of) but we converted a lot of people and I take pride that the site was truly well read. From the local media, to area police departments, Punching Kitty truly became a source for news and entertainment for St. Louis.

We had a lot of fun, but all good things need an ending and ours was on March 13th, 2013. When we closed up shop the news made local radio, TV, and even the front page of STLToday (The St. Louis Post Dispatch’s website) where we were the top story over a new pope being named. Wild stuff.

While we will no longer actively write, the site will stay up as an archive for St. Louis.

Chris Files Walks Behind George Clooney

Is that Chris Files, host of The Toast which is the diamond in the rough that is ToastedRav.com, in the new Up in the Air trailer walking behind star George Clooney?

It sure is!

Things are looking good for Files to make it in to the final cut of the movie when it drops November 13th which is pretty cool…I’m sure it wasn’t as much of a thrill as it was working with me doing Don’t Puke videos, but still, pretty exciting.

Rams Still Suck

81707287DV023_SANFRANCISCO

In case you couldn’t hear through the buzz, the Rams still suck.

Jeff Gordon said it well on his blog post:

The Rams have a new upper management team and a new head coach. Most of their assistant coaches are new, too, as are roughly half the players on their opening roster.

But the Rams have the same old problems. The Rams started the 2009 season by making a slew of mental, physical and emotional mistakes on both sides of the ball.

Fox 2’s Glenn Zimmerman For Hire!

48309194-27125444Fox2, like most media companies, are making their employees do the furlough thing to keep the company a float in the toilet bowl that is the media economy for a little longer and now its Glenn Zimmerman’s turn.  The thing is though, he’s not diluting himself in to thinking this is an vacation, he’s putting himself out there to find work on his downtime!

Sighting: Flipping Out’s Jeff Lewis at Outback

800px-FlippingoutWe admit, calling this a “St. Louis sighting” is a stretch, but we got the tip and we love love love this show, so we are running with it.

Jeff Lewis, from the Bravo reality show Flipping Out was spotted with “executive assistant” Jenni Pulos dining at the Outback in Cape Girardeau, MO just moments ago.

For those that don’t know the show, Jeff Lewis is a real estate “flipper” and Jenni, one of his employees, is best known for her ability to calm the neurotic Jeff down from one of his frequent flare ups.  Personally, we think that our personality would match pretty well with the dark humor of Lewis and well, we also have a little crush on Jenni,

Sighting: Spiderman Protecting the Loop

Just a few steps east of Blueberry Hill on Delmar we saw him.  Spiderman, looking out over the Loop ready to protect us from hippies and weird bums that want change, but are oddly well dressed for someone that needs a quarter.

Thats What You Get For Having Arkansas Spell Stuff For You

Notice anything particularly stupid about our shiny new ambulances?

ambulance_optIf you didn’t, you must be from Arkansas, which is the same place they got these from.

From Deb Peterson’s blog post:

Bill Greenblatt, photographer about town, was on hand when some new ambulances that had been lettered in Arkansas were delivered to the St. Louis Fire Department headquarters downtown.

So now they have to get them fixed.  Eh, they’ll just take some money from the education budget.   No matter how much they take, we won’t be dead last in edu-ma-cation right Arkansas?!

The ‘Up In The Air’ Trailer Drops

George Clooney came to town and filmed it, and you probably know at least two people that made it as an extra (and about four others that tried) and now its finally getting close to hitting the big screens.

The Up In The Air trailer is here so now the world can see Lambert Airport in all its …um…glory!

…wait, this isn’t a movie about the worst airport ever that takes place in the 70’s?  God St. Louis must be cheap to film in.

Slow News Day For St. Louis Outlets: Three Examples of Non-News

tila_t_foxNot every day can bring the death of a pop super star, a buyout of a local institution or even weather related news.  Apparently one of those days was yesterday because there were some people out there at our local news sources freaking struggling to get something out the door!

  1. Three sisters have weight loss surgery together” from KSDK.com

Should have been titled: “Three Fat Sisters Get Surgery Together Because All Hate Being Fat, but Not Enough To Do Actual Work.  USA! USA!”

Yoked By Our Own History

Who doesn’t love YouTube?  I kind of always relate it to New Orleans in that you go in there for what you say is a second and then in an instant you are hypnotized by the sheer number of crazy things to look at, 90% of which is stupid and or gross, and in the end you stumble out with nothing but feelings of guilt a few stories.

On our more recent trip to YouTube, we found this gem below from a guy that appears to be traveling the country and doing little videos for each stop.
