PUNCHING KITTY: 2009 - 2013

Punching Kitty was a writing project for the city of St. Louis to have a little fun and try to get everyone to stop taking themselves so seriously…and hopefully highlight some critical issues along the way. Not everyone liked it (it turns out people don’t love being made fun of) but we converted a lot of people and I take pride that the site was truly well read. From the local media, to area police departments, Punching Kitty truly became a source for news and entertainment for St. Louis.

We had a lot of fun, but all good things need an ending and ours was on March 13th, 2013. When we closed up shop the news made local radio, TV, and even the front page of STLToday (The St. Louis Post Dispatch’s website) where we were the top story over a new pope being named. Wild stuff.

While we will no longer actively write, the site will stay up as an archive for St. Louis.

One of our eagle-eyed, sex-machine, chick-magnet, party-loving readers sent in these photos they snapped of the Dairy Queen sign at the corner of Lafayette Ave and South 7th Street in Soulard.

Can anyone give us any info on the “Titz ‘n Reefer bash?   I hear there were both “Titz” and “Reefer” which are really all you need for an awesome party…also, ice cream cake helps, which is why that this party being on this sign is like the harbinger of the greatest party of all time!

Kyle Turley Talks to Punching Kitty About Music and Brain Injuries

Kyle Turley Talks to Punching Kitty About Music and Brain Injuries

DSC_0374_croppedKyle Turley was traded to the St. Louis Rams in March of 2003, which seemed to set in to motion a series of crazy crap for Turley: injuries, a battle with then head coach Mike Martz and then more injuries that resulted in him leaving the Rams and having a short stint with the cross-state Chiefs.

What’s Turley up to now though?  Music.  Country music.  Good country music.  [Editor’s Note: You have no idea how hard that was for us to write that!]

KSDK Determined to Count Each and Every Swine Flu Death

From KSDK.com:

Missouri has recorded its second swine flu death, and the first in the western part of the state.

State health officials say a 24-year-old Independence woman died Wednesday night, several days after she was hospitalized with symptoms including diarrhea, coughing and extreme fatigue. Her name was not released.

Look, KSDK, I don’t know how to tell you this…geez…um, we don’t care about Swine Flu any more.  We’ve moved on to more important issues like Kanye West, so you should move on too.  Sure its kinda interesting that the Swine Flu symptoms seem to be exactly like what happens after caving and eating at Taco Bell, but do we really need to count each one?

Officials Say Meth Use Falling, Not So Says Shirtless Guy With Holes In Teeth

2methAccording to a national study that was just released, the number of people older than 12 that use meth in this area fell 60% between 2006 and 2008.  Not only that, but the number of people trying meth also dropped 60% as well.

Alright!  High-five cops!

But law enforcement officials took little solace in the numbers.

Awww.  Um…great.  Way to kill the mood.

Not Quite a Retraction. More of an Addition.

Yesterday, when talking about Chris File appearing in the Up in the Air trailer, we said this, emphasis mine:

Is that Chris Files, host of The Toast which is the diamond in the rough that is ToastedRav.com, in the new Up in the Air trailer walking behind star George Clooney?

We forgot to mention that Chris isn’t the only diamond in the rough!  He has a buddy left in those charred remains of a media experiment: Their movie critic Roger Qbert!  We love his movie ripping articles!

St. Louis’ Pi: The Fightingest Pizza Place on Twitter!

pi_sign_tier3Every business in the world is on Twitter these days, and 90% of them just spam out links or at best have some schmuck behind the profile fartting out gems like:  “Sure am glad I brought my [insert product] with me today!  You should get one too!”, “Wow, [insert product] is so awesome.  Send us a photo of yours” or “How many of [insert product] do you like I can get in up my ass?  I bet 5.”  so in that respect we love seeing the Twitter Voice of Pi, the famed Loop pizza slinger, being more than just a spam robot!  ..in fact, they are straight up telling people to go the f*ck away via Twitter!
