Punching Kitty was a writing project for the city of St. Louis to have a little fun and try to get everyone to stop taking themselves so seriously…and hopefully highlight some critical issues along the way. Not everyone liked it (it turns out people don’t love being made fun of) but we converted a lot of people and I take pride that the site was truly well read. From the local media, to area police departments, Punching Kitty truly became a source for news and entertainment for St. Louis.
We had a lot of fun, but all good things need an ending and ours was on March 13th, 2013. When we closed up shop the news made local radio, TV, and even the front page of STLToday (The St. Louis Post Dispatch’s website) where we were the top story over a new pope being named. Wild stuff.
While we will no longer actively write, the site will stay up as an archive for St. Louis.

It was Wil Witherspoon. Its ok if you’ve never heard of him, and if thats the case you are totally not going to know the guy we got for him, Brandon Gibson, a rookie wide receiver from the Eagles.
Here’s your scouting report from the Rams. They are psyched.

If you happen to drive around St. Louis at all today, you no doubt saw tons of people that either don’t have important jobs or jobs at all, manning the street corners with signs like “Honk for Health Care”, “Christians for Health Care”, “Honk so I don’t feel so alone.” or “I think this is doing something.” [Editor’s Note: The last 2 might have been made up. We can’t remember all the different signs we saw today.]

That “I’m actually ok looking but at least I put in a little extra time with the makeup and hair so I’m decent looking and when you are drunk tonight you will think I’m the hottest girl on the planet but you’ll regret it because since I know I’m not actually all that great looking, I’m going to cling to you like I’m drowning.” vibe. Maybe AFTRA affiliation is good for something, but you can bet there’s some chafing at WARH.
So maybe this is surprising to some people, it wasn’t here. Yes, its true our fair editor has a connection to radio parent company Bonneville as he was previously an employee, but that doesn’t matter. It doesn’t take much thought to figure out that 92.3 WIL is a personality driven station, just look at the marketing. 106.5 the Arch however is just the opposite. Sure they have great talent on there, but its not the focus, the music is. The Arch didn’t get to #1 by pimping Van and Rick or Michelle Steele, they did it by creating a station you turn on when you get to your office and leave it on all day. It’s background music.

Recently there have been some pretty messed up violent crimes going down in the trendy Lafayette Square neighborhood of St.Louis City, so about 20 people took to the streets for a rally against the violence.
Its all very sad and I hope what they did helps, but this lady above, picture on STLToday.com with the story is a horrible sign maker.

In his weekly “Bernie’s Bits” column in the Post Dispatch, St. Louis sports scribe Bernie Miklasz opened a six pack of word whoop ass on the Rams. I know, a sports writer taking the Rams to task isn’t surprising. They suck. Royal. Bernie wasn’t talking about their on-field performance though, he was talking about the odd way they treat the media and the fans.
