PUNCHING KITTY: 2009 - 2013

Punching Kitty was a writing project for the city of St. Louis to have a little fun and try to get everyone to stop taking themselves so seriously…and hopefully highlight some critical issues along the way. Not everyone liked it (it turns out people don’t love being made fun of) but we converted a lot of people and I take pride that the site was truly well read. From the local media, to area police departments, Punching Kitty truly became a source for news and entertainment for St. Louis.

We had a lot of fun, but all good things need an ending and ours was on March 13th, 2013. When we closed up shop the news made local radio, TV, and even the front page of STLToday (The St. Louis Post Dispatch’s website) where we were the top story over a new pope being named. Wild stuff.

While we will no longer actively write, the site will stay up as an archive for St. Louis.

Random Interview: Jason Robinson

We are starting a little thing here on Punching Kitty: The Random Interview!  Do I really have to explain it?  Ok, fine.  Its a interview with a random person.

We got some response on Twitter when we asked for anyone that wanted to be interviewed, and this was the first response we got back!  More of these are coming since 1. its a cool spotlight on people and 2. its one less post idea I have to come up with when its a slow news day!  Everyone wins!

Webster Groves Gets a Whole Lot More Sexy With Their New Flasher

flasher sonWe miss the days when flashers rocked the long trench coat, walked right up to people and just put it out there and sometimes, if they are really good, threw in a little wiggle for good measure.  Today’s flashers, are just too damn lazy!  Take for instance this schmuck in Webster Groves:

Police in Webster Groves and Brentwood are looking for a man who exposed himself to young girls four different times.

While we’ve been asked by the PR company to withhold any reviews or features until the theatrical release in December, it can’t hurt to share a few first impressions with you, loyal Daily RFT readers.

Need a Halloween Costume? We Have Some Ideas.

Halloween is only a few days away and if you are like most people, not only do you not have a costume yet, but I just reminded you of that and you went “Crap!” and now everyone around you at work thinks you screwed something important up or got fired via email and really want to ask you “What?” but are worried that you might drag them in to the problem if they do.

Exploring the Urinal Art at Blueberry Hill

Exploring the Urinal Art at Blueberry Hill

We can’t speak on the details of the little girl’s room at St. Louis favorite Blueberry Hill, but in the Dude’s Room, they have these awesome pieces of wood where you are free to draw anything you want, or if you prefer, just try to inspect while you are giving back that beer you just bought.

I thought it would be fun to snap a photo [Editor’s Note: This is the first time I’ve taken photos in the boy’s room, I swear!] and take a closer look.  Get a real feel for the art work of St. Louis’ one handed artists.

St. Louis Radio’s Slow Decline Continues: JC Fired From K-HITS

jc_headshotIf a grouchy guy gets fired in a medium no one really cares about any more, does it make a press release?  Turns out yes.

Effective immediately, The Showgram, K-HITS morning talk show, will be discontinued and replaced with an all-music format hosted by St. Louis radio veteran Rick Sanborn. KSDK’s Art Holliday Flips a Bitch at Work, Gets Sent Home

hollidayartnewHey look at that Jerry Berger finally delivered some actual gossip on his website as opposed to the blatherings of various St. Louis councilmen that no one cares about.  Check out Art Holliday going postal at work!

NEWS IS NEWS: KSDK (Channel 5) anchor/producer Art Holliday is known around the dial for his affable good nature. But (as Congressional candidate Ed Martin might say) , even Atlas has to shrug. Holliday was missing from the station’s downtown studio Thursday, sent out by his bosses to cool down following a newsroom tirade earlier in the week. Holliday was loudly upset after the station aired a story about a memorial service for St. Louis police officer Julius Moore. According to Channel 5’s story, the young officer and father of three was shot and killed. According to every other news outlet (and the Police Department), he died of injuries sustained in an auto accident en route to assist a fellow Third District officer. The columnist commends Holliday for his outrage.

Tony LaRussa to Return as Cardinals Manager, to Bring McGwire With Him

larussa_tonyAccording to the St. Louis Post Dispatch, long-time Cardinal skipper Tony LaRussa will return to the Cardinals for at least the 2010 season, which is pretty much what every one thought would happen.  The Cardinals return next year with at least the best hitter in the game in Pujols and the tandem of Cy Young candidate pitchers in Adam Wainwright and Chris Carpenter, together that is a recipe most managers, especially Tony, just can’t pass up.

We are taking today and the weekend to do a few behind the scenes upgrades here at PK headquarters.

You may have noticed recently that we have been experiencing more down time and some slowness issues.  Some of it is because of how and where this is run from and some of it is because we are getting kinda popular and are outgrowing our space a big.  Either way, that crap isn’t cool, so we have been spending some time planning upgrades to keep you guys getting all the Punching Kitty you need whenever you want it.
