PUNCHING KITTY: 2009 - 2013

Punching Kitty was a writing project for the city of St. Louis to have a little fun and try to get everyone to stop taking themselves so seriously…and hopefully highlight some critical issues along the way. Not everyone liked it (it turns out people don’t love being made fun of) but we converted a lot of people and I take pride that the site was truly well read. From the local media, to area police departments, Punching Kitty truly became a source for news and entertainment for St. Louis.

We had a lot of fun, but all good things need an ending and ours was on March 13th, 2013. When we closed up shop the news made local radio, TV, and even the front page of STLToday (The St. Louis Post Dispatch’s website) where we were the top story over a new pope being named. Wild stuff.

While we will no longer actively write, the site will stay up as an archive for St. Louis.

Normandy to Eat Wellston, Not in a Sexy Way

Come Thursday it will all be official, the Wellston school district will be no more come June 30th, 2010.  The students will be folded in to the Normandy school district, and the staff’s contracts will be terminated.

Wellston’s facilities are inadequate, its students have not made enough academic progress, its superintendent is retiring, its finances are stable but weak, there is little hope of more help from the state and this is the right time to try something new.

Steven Jackson is Tired.

jacksonstretch625jul2947-7

What could be called nothing other than a whoopin’, the Rams got dropped by the Titans yesterday. Once again we go to the only player that’s worth a damn on the Rams, Steve Jackson.

Steven, since being the only offensive weapon on the Rams all season, you’ve had pretty much every member of your opposition’s defense up your ass every Sunday, yet  you are fighting through the pain and putting up amazing numbers. The real question is, after all that work, how does a kick in the jimmy like the Titan’s game make you feel?

Woman Attacked in UMSL Bathroom

Nothing worse than being at a night class and then getting attacked when trying to take a leak.

Campus police say they are following several leads. They say the attack happened about around 4:20 p.m. Tuesday in the Social Science and Business building.

School officials maintain UMSL is a very safe campus, although this is the second time this year that a potentially dangerous situation was reported on campus.

Yeah, we hear North St. Louis is a “very safe” part of town in general if you disregard all the murders and muggings.

Bonneville: Advertising on the Rocks?

Did I just hear an advertisement for gin on the Bonneville (read: Mormon) owned 101 ESPN?  Gin?!  Are times really that tough, or did St. Louis try to slip one past the bishop?

…no, not that one.  The Mormon Bishop.

St. Louis Globe-Democrat Launches

Screen shot 2009-12-08 at 9.38.03 PMThat “other” St. Louis newspaper that closed its doors in 1986, before newspapers closing their doors was all the rage, is back…as a website.

Things looks good so far, and I really hope they do well since we need another strong news source in this town, but I do have a few questions:

What Google Thinks About St. Louis

Screen shot 2009-12-07 at 11.38.54 PMSo most people have no idea what we are famous for, what we eat or where the hell we are.

…those that do though, think we are dying.

Sweet.

Checking in on the Kurt Greenbaum Saga

No, nothing new (that we know of) has happened in Greenbaum-Gate, but word is still spreading out from just our little world of baseball and new highways:

The Globe and Mail has an op/ed piece on Greenbaum: “When Comment Moderation Goes Too Far

The Huffington Post’s article on it is still getting comments.

Greenbaum’s Twitter profile is still blocked.

…and the 8th result on Google for “Kurt Greenbaum” is our friend at KurtGreenbaumIsAPussy.com
