PUNCHING KITTY: 2009 - 2013

Punching Kitty was a writing project for the city of St. Louis to have a little fun and try to get everyone to stop taking themselves so seriously…and hopefully highlight some critical issues along the way. Not everyone liked it (it turns out people don’t love being made fun of) but we converted a lot of people and I take pride that the site was truly well read. From the local media, to area police departments, Punching Kitty truly became a source for news and entertainment for St. Louis.

We had a lot of fun, but all good things need an ending and ours was on March 13th, 2013. When we closed up shop the news made local radio, TV, and even the front page of STLToday (The St. Louis Post Dispatch’s website) where we were the top story over a new pope being named. Wild stuff.

While we will no longer actively write, the site will stay up as an archive for St. Louis.

It’s Time You Got To Know Sam Bradford

It’s happening. All the signs are there. After the Rams signed only AJ Feeley, and the Redskins trading for McNabb, and yesterday’s news that Marc Bulger has been released, its clear the Rams are going to draft Sam Bradford in a few weeks with the #1 pick in the NFL draft.

Here are a few things to get you started in getting to know St. Louis’ soon-to-be poster child of rich athletes.

Cardinals on Pace for 162 Wins!

The 2k10 baseball season started today in Cincinnati for the St. Louis Cardinals. After beating the Reds today 11 to 6, they are on pace for an astounding 162 wins! Which should be just enough to win the central division. *fingers crossed*

Not only that but…

Albert Pujols, with his two homeruns, is on pace for about 324 home runs.

Yadier Molina is on pace for only 162, but all of them are grand slams.

The Shocker on Jefferson

Coming home from the iPad madness from earlier in the day, we noticed something “shocking” coming down Jefferson just north of 44.

Is this the only crosswalk shocker in town? Have you seen any others?

[Editor’s Note: God we love that there’s a Wikipedia page devoted to the shocker.]

St. Louis Waits for the iPad

I’ve never been to a mall this early before in my life.

It’s 6:45am and I’m walking in to the West County Mall with a b-line for the Apple store.  The glass front of the Apple store is shrouded in darkness with black curtains covering the front of the store while I can only assume the little Apple elves are scurrying around sprinkling the last bits of magic dust on the iPads. I will be only the third person in the “reservation” line, but counting the other line of unwashed “no reservation” people I’m probably closer to the 30 or 40th person total. The guys ahead of me are claiming they were in line at 11pm last night, which at the time I found hard to believe. Later on I found that the two of them and their dog slept in a car parked in the mall lot and walked in when the mall opened at 5am.  An hour later I find out that one of the two guys ahead of me is just along for the ride, making me the second iPad purchaser in line. So close to #1! I don’t feel bad being bested by the guy though, he has waited in line for the iPhone and Xbox 360 previously. He’s a pro.

O’Fallon and St. Peters Missouri Are Government Kiss-ups

You know those douche bags nerds that always turned in all their homework and when you didn’t have a chance to yours done because you were a little busy with feeling the naughty bits of the opposite sex, they would make sure the teacher knew that they did their work and you didn’t.  You just want to put your foot so far up their ass that you leave trademarks on their adam’s apple right?

Are You Getting an iPad?

Its little secret that the Punching Kitty staff are a fan of Apple’s fine line of luxury computing items, so in case you were wondering, we are picking up an iPad Saturday.

In fact, we will be at both St. Louis area Apple stores!  Why? To get an iPad of course and to hang out with some St. Louis Apple-heads. The plan is to hit the West County Mall Apple store bright and early, around 7am, and then after getting through that line, heading over to the Galleria to see the crowd there!

A sad day for the people of Washington Park, IL as their mayor, John Thornton, has been murdered.

April Fools Day 2010

We decided that St. Louis stories are bat-shit crazy enough so we didn’t do a single April Fools Day post today.

You’re welcome.
