PUNCHING KITTY: 2009 - 2013

Punching Kitty was a writing project for the city of St. Louis to have a little fun and try to get everyone to stop taking themselves so seriously…and hopefully highlight some critical issues along the way. Not everyone liked it (it turns out people don’t love being made fun of) but we converted a lot of people and I take pride that the site was truly well read. From the local media, to area police departments, Punching Kitty truly became a source for news and entertainment for St. Louis.

We had a lot of fun, but all good things need an ending and ours was on March 13th, 2013. When we closed up shop the news made local radio, TV, and even the front page of STLToday (The St. Louis Post Dispatch’s website) where we were the top story over a new pope being named. Wild stuff.

While we will no longer actively write, the site will stay up as an archive for St. Louis.

Kelly Jackson Returning to KSDK

Kelly Jackson left KSDK a few years ago to sow her wild oats at other stations no one’s ever heard of…but now, she’s back!

Do you remember her, because we sure don’t.

We do know that while she was gone from St. Louis news she got a little national attention for screaming like a wuss when some masked goblins ran across her set. The clip went, as the kids say, viral and even appeared on CNN (embedded below).

Ray Lankford, the ex-Cardinal outfielder, recently launched his new website all about his time with the Cardinals, his accomplishments and contact info to book him for corporate events and parties.

raylankford16.com is chock full of tidbits like,

Tony LaRussa is Going to Be on Whatever the Hell “Housecat Housecall” is

Tony LaRussa doesn’t like to lose. We’ve heard good friends will be in town to have a meal with the man, and if the Cardinals loose that night, he won’t go. That’s mean, but that’s Tony. He can be a hard-nosed competitive, and frankly, mean guy some times. Hell look at him go at STLToday sports writer Bernie Miklasz.

…and then he’ll go do something like this:

…and we love every second of these moments.  We can’t get enough of stuff like this. I mean, how could you? Which is why we couldn’t have been happier to see that our friends at Cards Diaspora.com got their hands on new promo photos of LaRussa and family appearing on some show called Housecat Housecall which sounds just awful. I mean really really awful. Like watching Kirstie Alley eat spaghetti with her hands awful.

The Beautiful Kind Blog to Return May 17th

We’ve been hot and heavy, so to speak, with the story about locally based erotic blog The Beautiful Kind’s sudden disappearance from the interwebs. In our last post, that featured the back story and a message from “TBK” herself to our readers, we closed with the following open questions:

Once again we wish TBK the best going forward and although it’s probably hard for her to look to the future right now, we are left wondering:

At Punching Kitty HQ: A White Castle Candle

An “interesting” little item got dropped on our laps last night: A White Castle candle.

Though we certainly don’t consider ourselves one of the White Castle crazy group, we enjoy a little steamed burger from time to time. That being said, this thing stinks. As in it doesn’t smell good. It looks cool, but the chance of it ever getting lit at Punching Kitty HQ is about the same as Mike Shannon staying sober past the seventh inning.

Now if you want your home to smell like a White Castle, then although it’s not our jam, this candle is for  you. It does smell quite a bit like a White Castle burger. It fails though if you want it to incorporate the smell of loneliness and despair that you can only enjoy if you get out of your car and enter the White Castle yourself.

One more shot after the jump.

Gangs Clean Up North St. Louis City, Still Plan to Shoot at Each Other

According to KMOX State Representative Jamillah Nasheed and Alderman Antonio French talked to gang members and got them to help in an O’Fallon Park cleanup project.

French met with some gang members recently and helped them come up with “Operation Unity” — a weekly community clean-up effort, “They care about our community, too. They live here and grew up here. Many have kids of their own living here. They want to bring up the quality of life in their neighborhood. We’re getting them involved, organized, and working together.”

Looking for Local Advertising on Punching Kitty

We’ve been running Google ads on here since the site first appeared a year and a half ago, but lets face it, they aren’t great.  We aren’t looking to make a lot, or as it were, any money from the site, but we want the ads to actually be a benefit and add to the Punching Kitty product. These aren’t doing it.

If you are a local (St. Louis) business and would like to sponsor Punching Kitty, contact us at [email protected]. We’d love to talk and figure out how we can help each other. Open to anything: contests, banner ads or something else we haven’t even thought of yet.

Cinco de Mayo on Cherokee Street

Cinco de Mayo on Cherokee Street

Though a little chilly for a Saturday in May, we took to the streets to head over to Cherokee Street’s Cinco de Mayo celebration. Arriving just in time to catch the parade allowed us the chance to snap possibly our favorite photo of all time (above).

6 hours, 5 tacos, 1 margarita, and tons of photos later we realized we had spent the whole day down there and it was time to head back and put together the video below.
