For a reasons we can’t figure out other than the fact that they keep firing people that make more than minimum wage over there, the Post Dispatch thought it wise to push the typewriter away from the experienced writers and in front of two guys that throw balls really really hard for a living. Cardinal pitchers Chris Carpenter and Adam Wainwright were asked to write why the other should win the National League Cy Young Award.

Mayor Slay Institutes Draft to Restock Rams Roster
For immediate release:
Monday, after the Rams’ Wide Receiver Keenan Burton suffered a season-ending knee injury, Mayor Slay introduced the draft for all St. Louis men between the ages of 22 and 30. Men selected are to report immediately to Rams Park, put on the pads and play until they are hurt, at which point they can go back to their normal lives knowing that they have served their city in it’s time of need.

Richie Incognito Visits a Blood Drive
Here, in this photo from STLToday.com, we see Rams lineman Richie Incognito visiting blood donors today in Richmond Heights.
After this happy moment you see here, Richie told everyone there that just because they were giving blood they knew how to cheer for the Rams. Then he punched this lovely lady in the face and took off early. When asked for a comment, Coach Spagnolo said “he was just really ‘fired up’ for the blood drive and you have to do appearances with passion.

When You Account for the Season, the Cardinals Aren’t All That Cheap
The whole point of this post over at subtraction.com by Khoi Vinh was to invalidate the “Yankees bought a championship!” argument, and although an interesting read, not really something that this blog gives a crap about. However, in the data he pulled something interesting did pop up that related to St. Louis and our National League Central champ Cardinals.
Vinh pulled the revenue each team made in 2008 and the payroll for the team in the 2009 season and compared the “investment rate” that the team operated on for the 2009 season along with their final record.

Brain Dump on Things Too Short to Be a Post
The Moonrise Hotel is great for the Loop, but horrible for Delmar. The street just can’t handle it. If one person heading east wants to turn in to the Moonrise it backs up traffic all the way through the Loop. The Cardinals aren’t going to re-sign Matt Holliday. Deal with it. Batman couldn’t really get around very well in St. Louis in his usual rooftop style. There are too many breaks in the buildings.

The Rams Win the Slap Fight Between the Two NFL Sissies
Holy crap the Rams won a game!
Let me rephrase: Steve Jackson won a game. The rest of them stood around and took penalties for a few hours.
For those that missed the game, here’s a recap: There were tons of dropped balls and penalties and, well…here’s a clip from the game:
Of course there will be those that will spend all day today talking about this being a “turing point” and how this was when people took control, but lets cut the crap.

The ESPN Mothership Turns on WXOS
Yesterday was a big St. Louis sporting news day! Tony LaRussa made his decision to return to manage the Cardinals for at least 2010 official and confirmed the rumor that Mark McGwire would be on board as the team’s new hitting coach!
This is a major local news story that broke through the bounds of St. Louis and got national coverage. Obviously the network synonymous with sports, ESPN, picked up and story and when they needed that local view they turned to the obvious radio station choice…KMOX?

Tony LaRussa to Return as Cardinals Manager, to Bring McGwire With Him
According to the St. Louis Post Dispatch, long-time Cardinal skipper Tony LaRussa will return to the Cardinals for at least the 2010 season, which is pretty much what every one thought would happen. The Cardinals return next year with at least the best hitter in the game in Pujols and the tandem of Cy Young candidate pitchers in Adam Wainwright and Chris Carpenter, together that is a recipe most managers, especially Tony, just can’t pass up.

101 ESPN’s Randy Karraker to Buy Rams?
First off, let me do a little finger wagging at 101 ESPN for not including the mighty Punching Kitty on their press release list.
Secondly, here’s their new publicity stunt. Its so obviously as stunt we normally wouldn’t report on it, but we really like Randy Karraker around here, so what the hell…
Here’s the part the matters:
WXOS-FM’s Randy Karraker announced that he is stepping up to the plate in a bid to purchase the St.

The Rams Traded Someone
It was Wil Witherspoon. Its ok if you’ve never heard of him, and if thats the case you are totally not going to know the guy we got for him, Brandon Gibson, a rookie wide receiver from the Eagles.
Here’s your scouting report from the Rams. They are psyched.
“Brandon is a young receiver that we have followed since training camp,” Rams GM Billy Devaney said in a statement. “He has good size (6-0 and 210), good hands and had a very productive preseason.
