Leisa Zigman is Giving You the Straight Dope Yo!

One of our eagle-eyed readers caught our favorite local newscaster, Leisa Zigman of channel 5 KSDK droppin’ some gang signs in between the “news”

Yo yo yo!

My name is Leisa Zigman and I’m here to say
I love talking news all the damn day

Well “news” is a relative term…more like happenings that I care about…ok, its more like a video diary I get paid for.

Leisa Zigman’s Twitter Account Was Hacked…By a Hacker…Again

No not really, but when you do something stupid and you can’t tell your computer from your microwave, you just say a “hacker” did it and then you are cleared of all stupid deeds.

Here’s a quick synopsis of our absolute favorite KSDK reporter’s twitter page:

zigman_hackedAbout an hour later, Zigman figures it out…

zigman_hacked2Ah.  That solves. it.

Here’s what really happened: There has been a link floating around that if you click on it, and happen to be signed in to Twitter, it will submit a private message to everyone on your list.  No one stole her password, which is probably something super hard like “n3ws” or “imastar”.

[Editor's Note: Who else is picturing her reading this and frantically changing her password?]

Oh Leisa, no one “hacked” your Twitter account, no one wants to “hack” in to your Twitter account, and frankly even if some one did “hack” in to your Twitter account and started spouting off moronic tweets we would never know!

In fact, lets play a game!  It’s called “Zigman or Not”…ok, that’s a horrible name, but I’m making this up as I go along here ok folks!  Feel free to submit your better name for this game in the comments.  Anyway, you pick which of the following are actual Tweets from Leisa Zigman, and which ones I just made up. (No cheating by going to her account!)

1. “stl post still doesnt have mcgwire story. either does kmov or ktvi.”

2. “cnn was talking about the prez today. how is that news? what about parking tickets?”

3. “my sniz smells like cheez 2day.”

4.  ”wash u african.amer.students denied access to chi niteclub hold town hall 2nite.fbi now investigating racism. story going international.”

KSDK vs St. Louis’ Finest: Its On Now!

leisa_ksdk_vs_copsA little while back we told you about the brewing war between St. Louis’ NBC affiliate KSDK and St. Louis Cops.

It appears channel 5’s reporter Leisa Zigman didn’t feel reportery enough so she got out her fedora, tucked her press pass in the band and went off to uncover a scandal!  Long story short, she didn’t find one.  Instead, Zigman decided to do a “report” on St. Louis police officers parking in no-parking spaces throughout the city, including in front of their own station!  [Editor's Note: Dun dun daaaaaaaaa!]

In the last 2 days the piece is finally out (you can see it and the video on KSDK’s site).  Its clear from reading it that after the initial attention this story got, and the fact that not many were on KSDK’s side, they decided to hedge their bet, just a little:

Does this violation rise to the level of an FBI investigation into the department regarding an alleged towing scandal? Of course not.

Does this parallel the last years indictments against two veteran officers accused of planting evidence and dealing drugs? No.

But, the question raised is whether police or any public official is above the law, even if it’s just parking laws.

The slight backing off (and we mean very slight) hasn’t helped the cool the boiling blood on the other side.  A quick stroll through the local police message board found remarks such as:

Thanks Lisa. What a news story. I’m sure you will get the Alfred E. Newman award for waste of film. I want you to investigate why my neighbor’s dog barks only at 6AM and wakes me up.

That was fun to watch. Excellent display of reporting!! NOT

The empty spots that she showed as being designated for police officers are NOT for police officers. She didn’t even bother to read the freaking sign. Those are for city hall employees.
Sloppy work on her part. Lazy work.

I even wrote Leisa beforehand and commented on this asking her if this was really news worthy? She did write back and said to watch the segment. She said what we really need is more police parking. I did not get that from the segment.

As far as we are concerned, the only Police Officer that should be fined is the one in the second quote above that is still using “Not!”

Leisa Zigman Doesn’t Quite Get Twitter

From the Wikipedia page on Twitter:

Twitter is a free social networking and micro-blogging service that enables its users to send and read each others’ updates, known as tweets. Tweets are text-based posts of up to 140 characters, displayed on the author’s profile page and delivered to other users – known as followers – who have subscribed to

Its that “up to 140 characters” thing that seems to be hard to understand for KSDK reporter, and recent focus of police officer ire, Leisa Zigman.

Taking a glance at Zigman’s profile (@lzigman) reveals not one, but two failed tweets:

zigman_long_tweetsWe admit that to some Twitter can be a little weird, but the on thing that is pretty easy to absorb is “keep it under 140 characters”  It can’t get much more clear than that really….but even if you are that dense, they even give you nice way to find out that you are over.  Let us show you how it works Leisa.  We pasted the full version of one of your recent tweet fails in to our Twitter profile:

long_tweet_failNotice the giant red -15 in the corner.  Take a guess what that means.

On the plus side, we are happy to read that Zigman is sticking to getting “exclusive” access to parties rather than walking the streets trying to drum up weak “investigations” about non-issues like where on duty cops park around the station.
