Everything Is Terrible! and the Quest for the Magick Krystal Tour!

In what’s being called “the biggest news of your life,” the video mashing comedy stylings of Everything is Terrible! is headed back to St. Louis on July 2nd, with the debut of a new live show and their new movie entitled “2Everything2Terrible2: Tokyo Drift”.

Never heard of them? Good thing we have this blockquote for you.

Everything Is Terrible! was started in 2007 as a way for a group of friends with a serious VHS habit to swap footage. It has since evolved into a full blown internet phenomenon, appearing on Videogum, Gawker, Buzzfeed, The Daily What, The Huffington Post, The Onion A.V. Club, Boing Boing, NPR, MTV, Web Soup, and G4’s Attack of the Show! We were even in some newspapers (whatever those are) called the Chicago Tribune and LA Weekly.

Although there is still some distance between us and the show, we thought it would be a good way to kill time generically awesome to show you some of our top 5 Everything is Terrible clips.

1. Watch out for a knife in the face!

2. The first thing you need to know is that the internet is amazing.

3. We love Duane!

4. Final warning this. (By “this” he means his crotch)

5. It’s time for cat massage! (You had to know this was coming.)

Cinco de Mayo on Cherokee Street

Though a little chilly for a Saturday in May, we took to the streets to head over to Cherokee Street’s Cinco de Mayo celebration. Arriving just in time to catch the parade allowed us the chance to snap possibly our favorite photo of all time (above).

6 hours, 5 tacos, 1 margarita, and tons of photos later we realized we had spent the whole day down there and it was time to head back and put together the video below.

People ask us all the time: “You take so many shots at St. Louis, why don’t you move?” Stuff like this is why.

Watch the video in HD at Vimeo or YouTube [Editor's Note: Removed YouTube link after the video was removed because of our use of Sony Music's background music. Go pirate some Sony music!]

[Editor's Note: If you have any interest in having the actual photos uploaded, let us know in the comments.]

The 2009 U.S. Chess Championship Comes to Saint Louis

Oh thats right ladies!  St. Louis might not have Fleet Week, but this year we have The 2009 U.S. Chess Championship!

Two dozen of the nation’s best chess players will be invited to participate in the 2009 U.S. Chess Championship, which will be held at the new Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis. The tournament, which dates back to 1845, will take place from May 7 through 17, 2009 and will offer a purse of more than $130,000 in prize money.

If you’re not sure where to find the Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis, its the building with the crazy long line of fine ass pussy rolling out of  it 24/7!

The 24 invited players will include:
the top 12 American players by rating, using the April rating supplement;
the top two female players by rating, using the April rating supplement;
the 2008 U.S. Junior Closed Champion;
the 2008 U.S. Open Champion;
the 2009 U.S. State Champion of Champions;
a total of seven wild card spots, to be determined later.

I’m sure this is unrelated, but I wanted to mention that this year’s U.S. Atomic Wedgie Giving Championship is taking place right down the street at about the same time.  I’m sure it will be fine.  If you’ve spent this much time playing chess, like those 24 players,  you must have learned to cut your underwear elastic to lessen the blow right?

Bill Nye the Science Guy is Coming to SLU

Washed-up kids science show host and recurring guest “star” on CBS’ drama Numb3rs Bill Nye is coming to speak at St. Louis University at the Busch Student Center building on February 16th.

The topic of his talk will be ”More with Less: How Saint Louis University Students are Going to Change the World.”  See the brilliance of it is putting the school he happens to be at is right in the title of the speech!  This can’t fail.  On a related note, I’ve heard from several rock groups that St. Louis is “the rockin’-est city in the world!”

Whatever.  I always preferred “Beakman’s World” anyway. [See: here and here ]
