The man behind the best St. Louis-related mugshot since Ozzy Osbourne was arrested rocking a Blues jersey, Cardinal’s TV broadcaster Dan McLaughlin, has plead guilty to the DUI charge he earned back in August.

McLaughlin, 36, has completed community service and will serve two years’ probation in the case, said his lawyer Jim Towey. As part of the plea deal, the state will not revoke McLaughlin’s license. Shortly after his arrest, the court issued a stay order, which means McLaughlin was allowed to drive while the case was pending.

Next up for McLaughlin is the same thing all people say they’ll do after getting caught doing something stupid: Find peace and make their life better.

“It’s been something that has taught me the most valuable lesson of my life,” McLaughlin said Wednesday. “And I’m just trying to better my life and move on.”

This could be tricky for the chatty and plump broadcaster since he’s done a remarkable job of making everyone hate his ass over the last few years.

some of the security guys at busch loathe the guy. the one constant in all the stories i’ve heard are the “do you know who i am?” types of responses they get to the “sir, you can’t park your car in a fire zone”, etc. normally you wouldn’t think too much of it, it’s just that the only other story like this i’ve heard from these same people are about barry bonds.

Good luck with making amends, Danny Mac! Maybe stay away from the charity golf tourney’s with open bars (and buffets) would be a good start.

In one of the finest mugshots to come out of the St. Louis area in some time (No, its not better than Dan McLaughlin’s.) we have James Clinton, arrested for DUI and driving with a suspended license.

There’s no doubt from the look on Jimmy’s face that the Police have finally rolled out their “Make All Arrests Watch KSDK’s Local News Broadcast with Leisa Zigman” program. Seems to be unnecessarily cruel though.

From the moment we posted about Dan McLaughlin this morning, we’ve been hearing report after report from all over about how lots and lots of people don’t like old “Danny Mac”. Lots of people are, dare we say, happy about this little traffic stop and following mug shot.

…and then we got this thrown our way:

The fact that someone took the time to make and circulate this says a lot. Also of note is that we still can’t look at that mugshot without giggling.

Yeah, he looked really sober. Probably not guilty. He looks like Jack Nicholson’s drunk chubby little brother. You see the key to looking sober is to cross your eyes and give the camera a creepy sly smile. This may be the greatest St. Louis mugshot since Ozzy Osbourne.

Dan McLaughlin, Cardinals TV broadcaster on Fox Sports Midwest, was pulled over and arrested on suspicion of drunk driving Monday night after refusing to submit to a breathalyzer test.

The officer suspected McLaughlin had been drinking and requested McLaughlin take a breathalyzer test. McLaughlin refused and was arrested, [Chesterfield police Lt. Steve] Lewis said. He was taken to Chesterfield police headquarters for booking and later released. Lewis said he was unsure how long McLaughlin was in custody. It was unclear if McLaughlin had been charged.

McLaughlin, who last year was anointed the “chattiest” baseball announcer by the Wall Street Journal, was probably totally pissed off at work the next day. I bet that was weird. Fat guys are supposed to be all jolly and stuff right?

McLaughlin filed and won his petition to keep his license while the case was pending. His hearing is set for October 6th, which is nice since fellow Cardinal broadcaster Mike Shannon has his standing monthly drinking and driving hearing on the same day.

For two, he looks like Jack Nicholson’s love child with Eddie Munster.

For three, this one time he got drunk and drove around in his car.

For four, this other time he got drunk and drove around in his car.

For five, this other other time, he got drunk and drove around in his car.

Oh yeah, thats three DUIs!   Guess who thinks thats not cool for an elected official?  His opponents!

Veteran board member Michael Garman said Wednesday he will call for McLaughlin’s resignation because of a guilty plea for impaired driving in Michigan in 1998.

Last week Garman said that McLaughlin’s guilty plea in 2002 for drunken driving and a pending DWI case from 2007 were an embarrassment to an agency that regularly preaches sober driving and deals with the aftermath of those who don’t heed the message.

“The third charge within a 10-year period — that’s just not setting the right example,” Garman said Wednesday.

Of course the reply for the McLaughlin camp is the standard “Well, he was elected by the people so suck it.  …Shots!  Lets do shots!” response you would imagine, but we at Punching Kitty do have one little rebuttal:

Dude, no one actually goes to the polls for the big St. Charles County Ambulance Board Member election.  You got on the board because in one of your drunken stupors  you filled out the paperwork, and the people of St. Charles County have no freaking clue who the hell you are.

Its ok, we all do dumb stuff when drunk.  You however, just happen to do a lot more than most, like driving, and getting that short buzz cut with those ears.
