Tammie Holland Couldn’t Think of Anything to Just Say

This KSDK “I’m Just Sayin’” thing is such a trainwreck I can’t help but not mention it just one more time here.  Why?  Because I finally remembered again that KSDK was doing this and found one I was looking forward the most on their site: Tammie Holland.

If you aren’t familiar, this is the spicy little vixen that had this crazy off the cuff conversation igniting statement in channel 5′s promos for the “I’m Just Sayin’” feature:

Ladies here’s a tip. If you own one of these..

[points to her cellphone]

Keep your clothes on.

Oh man.  She did not just go there.  I can’t wait to see the heat she brings in her full feature!

So you get your chance to be featured as the token black person a radio host on channel 5 and you bring the heat with “What’s with all the people selling girl scout cookies at work?”  What didn’t make the cut Tammie? Did you think of other burning topics like “How ’bout this weather huh?” and “Geez.  Look at that guy.  No no, the other one. What’s that about?”

Then she pulls out the ole “Are we being too easy on our kids?” argument saying that schilling for cheese and sausage at work is making little Billy soft.  Yeah, I don’t think a sign up sheet taped to the outside of your cubicle is making Billy a pussy, that’s already been taken care of by the peanut allergy you assumed he had and the 6 ADD drugs you pump in him daily so he’ll just listen in class.

Well, we just don’t know how Tammie Holland does it, day in and day out, bringing up the tough topics. Don’t miss her exciting next KSDK turn where she throws around verbal blows like “Have you ever noticed how different guys are than girls?!  It’s like they’re from another planet!”

Oh man! Can’t wait!  Derp!

News Chopper 5 Has Been Grounded

More cost-cutting measures continue to be created to keep our struggling local news operations afloat. One of the more recent ones is KSDK, channel 5′s move to dismantle their news helicopter.

From the rumor mill over on STLMedia.net:

As of February 1st KSDK no longer has a news helicopter. The camera has been removed from chopper 5. In a cost cutting move KSDK is negotiating with KMOV for a “shared use” of aerial footage, but has yet to sign an agreement. Just another sign of the need to save money.

KSDK and KMOV are also combining for Spring Training coverage. KSDK will send two photographers, one shoots for KMOV, they will share footage, and KMOV is sending their Sat. truck to feed back tape.

I guess the next time we have a high-speed chance, the only way KSDK can cover it is to join the chase themselves.

We just can’t figure out why local news still hasn’t gotten it yet!’

First, the whole idea of having to wait until 6pm to get your news is a laughable concept these days.  If I want the news, I’ll either jump on the internet or tune to one of the many 24 hour news channels at any given moment.  There’s no reason for me to wait until some artificial time to get it.  Along these lines, the idea of “teasing” your viewers is also so weak its just annoying now.  When Larry Connors drops a “One of your household items may kill you…but we won’t tell you wich one until after sports and the weather!” it falls flat.  Why?  Because I can just look it up.  The end. Now where’s that remote, we can still catch the rest of Seinfeld.

Also, you guys speed way too much time on the weather!  Just tell me what the weather is like now, and what it will be tomorrow (or later today for morning newscasts).  Maybe throw in a weekly forecast graphic and that’s it! That’s it. Seriously. We don’t care why its cold, we just want to know if we should bring a coat.  Oh its a cold front from Canada?  Who gives a crap!  Hey, look at where the jet stream is right now! Oh wait, that means exactly dick to me!  If I care about that crap, I’ll click the “more details” link on Weather.com.

People Really Don’t Like KSDK’s Cardinal Games

0It’s true, and we have to agree:  The Sunday Cardinal games aired on KSDK (channel 5) are easily the worst out of the four broadcast entities that air Cardinals games.  (The other three being, Fox, ESPN and of course Fox Sports Midwest)

A quick Twitter scan on the subject quickly returned thoughts like these:

I wouldn’t be upset if they moved all their games to cable like the Blues.

Other than Randolph’s “confused old guy” routine and Horton’s “washed-up average ex-player” bit, what is not to like?

It has always seemed to us that KSDK was so obsessed on getting the Cardinals Sunday games away from KPLR they completely forgot to plan accordingly on how to actually broadcast the games.

The most obvious part to pick on is the broadcast team of Jay Randolph and Rick Horton.  Although, admittedly we can’t pick on one specific thing that doesn’t work, our complaint is more of an all over “this isn’t working” kind of feel.  Randolph seems to be there just to get to that inning where they bring in Mike Shannon to create the single oldest and confusing broadcast team of all time.  Add to that Horton, who feels like he’s just keeping the seat from floating away until they can find someone better than will work for the same price.  Don’t even get us started on the Frank Cusumano “man in the stands” bit that apparently only exists because KSDK thinks that what you are supposed to do these days (also see the Ken Rosenthal experiment on Fox proper’s baseball coverage).

Add to their broadcasting issues the constant overlap of NBC’s national sports converage that always seems to leave some sporting fan segment out in the cold.  Whether it be cutting away from major golf events for a pre-game show or relegating one of the most competitive tennis matches to a small box in the corner of a blowout Cardinals game, KSDK has left no sports fan un-pissed off.

We would be happy if the Sunday broadcasts went the cable route like the rest of the games, but if the Cardinals want something different for their Sunday broadcasts, just put a damn camera in with John Rooney and Mike Shannon.  Sure Shannon is probably even crazier and more out of it than even Randolph, but at least he’s managed to make himself in to an institution.

A Mass Exodus is Brewing at KSDK

angry_woman_1First Deanne Lane, then Cordell Whitlock, who’s next to leave local NBC affiliate KSDK?  Apparently it could be anyone because our source says they are all pretty pissed:

…morale is way down there because of forced pay cuts everyone had to take last year.  That’s why you’ve seen several resignations there in the last year and you’ll likely see a few more.

This recent reports matches what much of what me and others have heard for a while now:  No one is happy there.  We aren’t just talking about “I work in a dying media that is run by morons” pissed off, this is really pissed off.

All signs point to more and more senior people hitting the door and you getting told about the progress of Highway 40 by a 21 year old guy like this.

Kay Quinn Tweets Through Her Furlough

Now her furlough is over, but for a second there it looked like we were going to be seeing the “[Insert activity here] on my furlough.” for everything she broadcast to Twitter last week.

kay_quinn_twitter

Seems odd to be broadcasting the fact your company sent you home with no pay for a week.  Looking for a new job Kay?

…also, I know  you can find a better photo than that for your Twitter picture!  Just snap off a couple of shots on set tonight, you are definitely looking better than this old headshot these days!
