PUNCHING KITTY: 2009 - 2013

Punching Kitty was a writing project for the city of St. Louis to have a little fun and try to get everyone to stop taking themselves so seriously…and hopefully highlight some critical issues along the way. Not everyone liked it (it turns out people don’t love being made fun of) but we converted a lot of people and I take pride that the site was truly well read. From the local media, to area police departments, Punching Kitty truly became a source for news and entertainment for St. Louis.

We had a lot of fun, but all good things need an ending and ours was on March 13th, 2013. When we closed up shop the news made local radio, TV, and even the front page of STLToday (The St. Louis Post Dispatch’s website) where we were the top story over a new pope being named. Wild stuff.

While we will no longer actively write, the site will stay up as an archive for St. Louis.

Death Over Pork Steaks

John Cunningham shot Lessie Lowe over an argument about whether what they were cooking were pork steaks or pork chops. Clearly this is a serious matter, so lets settle this right now before anyone else has to die: Pork Steaks are cut from the Boston Butt, or Pork Shoulder. Sometimes they are even cut from the fresh ham (hind quarter), but not often. Pork Chops are cut from the Loin and they may be presented boneless or bone-in. [Read More]

The Uncle Bill’s Owner Was Kidnapped

The owner of Uncle Bill’s Pancake & Dinner House was kidnapped and robbed Sunday. Bet you thought it was the South City location didn’t you?! Ha, wrong! It was the Ballwin location! Suck it! City: 1, County: 23,474,932,729,239,234,324,732,618,190 Now as long as the criminals don’t make it obvious they were actually from the city, that one point will be confirmed… Richard Lee, 75, of Creve Coeur was about to count the weekend earnings in his office at the Manchester location along the 14000 block of Manchester Road when two men grabbed his arms and sprayed pepper spray in his face, according to his wife of 46 years, Chi Yang Lee. A North St. Louis Woman Set Herself on Fire After a Gas Fight

“Whew! Glad we got our fight settled over that gas can. I should go change though because I have gas all over me in addition to all the booze I’ve been drinking…but first I need a light up a smoke. Oh shit. I’m totally on fire now.” That’s a thing that happened. We ad-libbed the dialog. Police tell News 4 the woman and the man she lives with in North St. [Read More]

Five Escape From Pike County Jail, One of Them Has Crazy Eyes

The Pike County Jail had five inmates escape it’s numerous guards and walls Saturday night. The jail still had no idea hours after it happened, but finally kicked on the alarm after they received a call from a family member of an inmate informing them of the escape. Soon after the warden started throwing rocks at various posters around the facility looking for an escape hole because he saw that in a movie once and didn’t really have any other ideas. [Read More]

Cardinals Fan Does Something Dirty Next to Jim Hayes on Fox Sports Midwest

Much of the St. Louis area had their TVs tuned to the Mizzou game Saturday night, and if that describes your TV, you missed this on the Fox Sports Midwest broadcast of the Cardinals game: No, Jim Hayes’ rug isn’t all that interesting, but the guy just to the left of his rug, making the universal “rug munching” sign is pretty funny. …and the “Missouri Lottery Cardinals Live” is up next! Photos: Abandoned Forest Park Hospital One Year Later

A St. Louis Reddit (/r/StLouis) user snuck in to the now abandoned Forest Park Hospital and snapped a few photos. For only being abandoned a year ago, shit sure got haunted fast! Here’s a few of our favorite shots: Shouldn’t there be a creepy, pale ghostly janitor cleaning this up? Seems like that’s something that someone should have grabbed on their way out the door. Did a zombie outbreak close this place down or what? [Read More]

Video: Here is St. Louis

The folks from Anastasis Films but together this great little video about the best of St. Louis. It’s very well done and a good change of pace from the various stabbings and shootings that usually dominate everything on a daily basis. Out of our love and passion for St. Louis City, we wanted to showcase some of the places and people that make it great. With special music from Band Called Catch (bandcalledcatch. [Read More]

Fox2 Sports Broadcast: Headline Goes Here

Fox2 got really really close to getting their graphic about the Mets and Cardinals game right. Sure they missed the score, the two lines of notes, and the fact that we’re talking about baseball teams rather than the NFL, but they did get the names right, and judging by the shot, it did appear on TV. Lets call it a 4 out of 10. We don’t want to be too hard on them though, for all we know they probably just fired the guy that does that for them so now they’ve got some schmuck like “friends of the site” Charles Jaco or Chuckie Marlow who are back there at the controls in between one Chuck botching Todd Akin interviews, and the other holding the camera up in one hand MySpace-style, while he covers local high school football games. Guy Gets Fifth DWI With Four Kids in the Car

It would seem its “horrible parents” week here at Punching Kitty. Yesterday we told you about a woman who lets her one kid escape and then leaves the other one alone when she goes to look for the first one, and a dad that got his car stolen after leaving it running with his 5 year old in the back. Now those are pretty horrible stories, but today’s story might be even better…err worse…well better, but in a comedic sense…not comedic per se, maybe like “better” in an OMG WTF kinda way. [Read More]
